Local Outreach

If you regularly attend the church you may have seen the ‘Sketchboard Outreach in the High St.’ notices that sometimes appear in the Church Bulletin and wondered what it’s about?

Well, to give you an idea of what goes on, let me tell you about the last time occasion – back on Saturday 1st of April ( a coincidence, honestly!) ---

There were eight of us met at Clarence Road Baptist Church at about 11am. We had a cuppa, a chat, and a chance to plan and pray. At midday we set out and gathered in the area by ‘Smiths’ where I spent a few minutes preparing the board and easel and the rest stood around among the large crowd of people ‘hanging about’ there (as they do on Saturdays).

I delivered the ten minute ‘illustrated talk’ then watched as most of the ‘group’ chatted with people around them. (That’s the great thing about the sketchboard – it promotes conversation. You can say to someone next to you ‘ I’m with that bloke, what d’you think about what he said?’ and you’ll usually get a polite response often inviting you to share something of your faith.). Several young people and others came up to me when I’d finished and had a chat or asked me what I was doing.

After twenty minutes or so I did another ‘talk’ and the process was repeated. We finished about 1pm.

Join us next time! I’m sure you’ll think it time well spent knowing you’ve ‘gone out into the world’ and done some sowing and maybe some reaping. Our experience is that, although a bit nervous at the start, you end up really encouraged and exhilarated knowing you’ve been obedient to Jesus’ commands and have seen the ‘hunger’ that is ‘out there’.

There are two more ‘Sketchboard’ dates this year (both approved by the council) they are
Saturday 3rd June and Saturday 2nd September. Please be at Clarence Road Baptist Church between 11am and midday. If you can’t make that time, see you outside ‘Smiths’ between midday and 1pm!

Look out for the notices in the church bulletins a couple of weeks before each date! ---

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

God Bless
